ViewMedica wins two Digital Health Awards

The ViewMedica patient education library won two awards in the Spring 2018 Digital Health Awards. This is the first year ViewMedica has entered this competition which is organized by the Health Information Resource Center. Our orthopedic library of videos won a Bronze Award, and our new mental health library won a Merit Award.

"We were honored to receive this recognition, especially for our new mental health video library," Swarm Interactive Chief Creative Officer Scott Horner said. "The award for our orthopedic content results from the many years we have supported the orthopedic field."

Swarm Interactive, Inc. is the developer of ViewMedica, a library of medical videos used by thousands of providers around the world to educate their patients. ViewMedica subscribers play the videos on their websites, in their facilities and through their waiting room TVs. The ViewMedica content library is completely customizable and affordable.

ViewMedica On-Demand is accessible on smart phone, tablet and desktop environments, and subscribers can print hard-copy brochures for their condition or procedure videos. ViewMedica VMcast subscribers create their own ad-free broadcast to inform, entertain, and promote their services. All ViewMedica content includes closed captioning and Spanish versions.

The Digital Health Awards recognize high-quality digital health resources for consumers and health professionals. Hundreds of health-related organizations and companies enter the competition, which is organized by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for professionals who work in consumer health fields. Winners were announced June 15, 2018. An independent panel of judges familiar with healthcare and digital communications evaluated the entries for content, design, creativity and user experience.

U.S. Government rules encourage health providers to make all their web content accessible for sight and hearing impaired as well as users with other disabilities. Subscribers to ViewMedica On-Demand patient education videos can rest assured. The On-Demand player meets WAI-A and section 508 standards for accessibility.

Only ViewMedica subscribers get the proprietary On-Demand player for showing health videos on their websites. We’ve developed this powerful video player just for the health care industry. So as industry requirements change, we quickly change with them.

We use the latest web technologies to make your player accessible to a wide audience. To meet the U.S. government’s Section 508 requirements, we followed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Web Accessibility Initiative, and met the WAI level A threshold. ViewMedica’s accessibility features are available on the two most used desktop operating systems with the majority of web browsers, and they work with both third-party and native screen readers.

Tested for Accessibility

  • Windows Browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Internet Explorer
  • Mac Browsers: Google Chrome, Safari
  • Screen Readers: NVDA, JAWS, Microsoft Narrator, Mac VoiceOver

We are currently working on ways to raise ViewMedica On-Demand’s WAI level to a stronger AA. That will involve giving the user control over text size and color contrast.
